With only XXX percent of urban and XX percent of rural population having limited access to health services in Liberia, there is a need for innovative strategies to meet the demand for health services. The Liberian government through the Ministry of Health in its National Health Plan has committed to XXXXX. TuMi’s Care Initiative remains committed in supporting national efforts to address ace3ss gaps through it’s programs.
These include:
TuMi care Initiative framework for gender equity and equality is based on the Global Normative Framework of 1994 “Programme of Action of the International Conference on Population and Development” who consider women empowerment as central to development and whose goal is to “ Fulfill the rights of women and girls and achieve gender equality and women’s empowerment. Climate change is nature’s response to human abuse of its integrity through excessive greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere. As such, we see nature’s wrath on vulnerable communities in Liberia. In many instances, communities work together with or without support to restore the integrity of nature and adapt to the effect of climate change. TuMi’s Care Initiative uses the the below approach:
CBA is closely associated with urban, rural and other vulnerable people striving to improve their livelihood against the imminent and long-term threat of climate change. In Liberia, where government machinery is weak or in many cases nonexistent, it is the communities that have protected life, used collective knowledge, and supported the weakest members against the wrath of nature. In fact, communities are often seen as a substitute for governments in terms of building strategies to navigate through difficult times. It is in this context that TuMi’s Care Initiative using the CBA program will build the capacity of communities in reducing impacts of climate change in a community. Key interventions include:
Interventions will support sustained interventions and eventually give the vulnerable communities a strategy to restore nature’s ability to deal with extreme weather conditions like erosion, floods, water-logging, and similar events.
Interventions will support vulnerable communities affected by the impact of climate change to diversify their sources of income to enable them to support their families.
Microfinance is a strategy used in many nations and individuals with seed funding to engage in businesses that contribute to empowerment. It gives access to loans in local communities to groups to help diversify their income sources. These loans incorporate capacity building goals, providing individuals and local communities to develop the ability to understand the impact of climate change and find strategies to remove such risks.
TuMi’s Care builds on programs and interventions that utilizes indigenous knowledge and local resources where community members are active participants in both program development and its implementation. The scope considers the impacts of climate change alongside poverty, ecological integrity, gender equality, maternal health and other development priorities.
We consider a framework that integrates reducing vulnerability and disaster risk exposure reduction, enhancing coordination to avoid duplication of efforts, socially and economically empowering marginalized groups while increasing co-benefits in terms of maximizing SDG attainment and resilience building.
Vulnerable communities are often located in remote areas and do not have access to modern technology and knowledge base. These communities not only have low access to many public facilities but often do not have access to programs supporting formal or informal education and training. TuMi’s Care Initiative seeks to leverage support from institutions, agencies, and donors as well as collaborate with communities to improve access to information for vulnerable populations. Interventions focus on introduction of new technologies and products through community-based awareness.
